In 1958 the US suffered a crippling winter which prompted a rare solution of inviting volunteers from the West Indies to come in the country to assist with the reaping of citrus crops etc. to avert millions of dollars worth of losses, my dad was one of these volunteers but he could'nt handle the cold so after three months he migrated to England. Today a similar situation is looming but we are apt today to concentrate on what divides us than what unites us it might not be so easily dealt with, this situation is New Orleans since Katrina the mainly black population has seen a very slow recovery with none technical jobs like clearing debris still to be done , would it be too far-fetched to suggest black representatives get together with say the Jamaican government to supply a labor force to do a sort of guest worker scheme where skilled carpenters, builders and laborers would be reasonable compensated to assist the residence to return their lives to normalcy before another dangerous hurricane season arrives. I understand this is not a big business concern like say the Farm Workers Program which has been operating for years under similar structure. Last but not least it is a known fact that during the slave trade tribes from the same homeland were split up across the West Indies and the Americas and similarities in cuisine, dialect and music has proven a kinship between both locations so in the end we might just end up taking care of family matters and who knows some New Orleans might be tempted to relocate with their kinsmen in Jamaica while the restoration is ongoing, this could also start a trend of blacks getting together to help blacks around the globe.
